Ice is more treacherous when the temperature is near 0°C (36°F)!
Often this ice occurs in the morning. The nigh before there has been precipitation and the temperature fell below freezing. The next morning it is cold and drivers fail to take note of the temperature and the previous precipitation for whatever reason.
There are specific places on roadways where black ice is more likely to occur. As well, at the freezing point, the ice that forms is more slippery.
