Here is a little trick we use at 518 Painters to find studs fast and easy without a stud finder. This is a cost effective little too you can make at home using powerful Neodymium magnets and a piece of scrap wood. You can find these magnets on eBay or in a hobby store.
It's a simple method that will help you find screws and nails in your drywall. From there it's usually 16 inches or 24 inches on center to find the next stud.
