A traditional resume outlines your skills, qualifications and experience, whereas a video resume enables an employer to get a feel for your personality.
When creating a video resume pick a simple and clean background in a quiet area. Ensure the area has good lighting but, avoid sources of light directly behind you like sitting in front of a window.
When making your video resume place your camera at or above eye level on a tripod or stand. If you don’t have this, a ball of blu-tac can work. For best results, film with your phone in a sideways or landscape orientation.
Try to approach recording your video resume in the same way you would a face-to-face meeting. Introduce yourself clearly and tell the viewer why you're the right person for the job. Remember you only have a few seconds to engage them – then you have to keep them interested
Avoid speaking directly from a script or just reading out your written resume.
Don't forget - you can do as many takes until you are happy with the result.
When you are finished filming, upload your video to YouTube. Set it to unlisted, then copy and paste the link into your jobactive Career Profile.
Don't forget to update your video resume when you have new skills and experience, or are looking for a new job. When you are no longer actively looking for employment, don't forget to take your video down!
