Today I’m going to teach how to make an Oval Napkin Holder with newspaper. It’s very easy, creative, use able and very economical.
Step by Step:
1) Newspaper tubes:
• Divide the newspaper sheet into 3 parts
• You need to cut long strips
• Place the barbeque stick on a corner of the newspaper at an acute angle. This will give you a long tube.
• Now roll with your fingers and carefully lift the tube, holding the end of the Barbeque stick in our right hand and rolling the paper around with our left.
• When you reach the end, smear on a small amount of glue to secure in place.
• For removing the stick, please twist the tube and bring it out carefully.
• You will notice once you have made a few tubes that one end is ever so slightly narrower than the other.
2) How to make an Oval Napkin Holder:
• Take the newspaper tube and fold inward around 2 inches for making the base of our Napkin Holder.
• Apply glue to the first inward fold, then, keep folding in the same direction until the end of the tube.
• For continuing apply glue to the end of our first tube and insert the second tube.
• After we have inserted the second tube, continue folding inward until it has a measurement about 5 inches long by 3 inches wide.
• At the end use a pinch of glue for securing the end of the newspaper & for tightening use a cloth pin as you saw on the video.
** The same procedure will be used for the edges of our Oval Napkin Holder, just that instead of a 2 inch inward fold, we will use a 1 inch inward fold. The final measurement should be around 3 inches long by 2 inches wide.
Remember that it´s for each side, so, make two sets.
3) Protection :
• Remember to apply glue on each side of our folded newspaper for having a stronger craft & let it dry completely
• Before continuing towards our final touches, apply white sealant for protecting our craft & let it dry completely.
4) Coloring:
• For our coloring use acrylic base color, in this case I used the color brown but you can decide which one you´ll apply.
• Use a napkin for removing the excess for getting a better texture & let it dry completely.
5) Gluing:
• For this part we will need hot glue and our Oval Napkin Holder base and edges.
• Place the base and apply a small amount of hot glue on the edges of our napkin holder and then paste it to the base.
6) Varnishing:
• Apply varnish to our craft for having a better texture, protection and brightness.
Here is our final product, what a better way for making a Napkin Holder than the one that we use our hands with recycling materials!
