Ingredients:
Raw rice / Idli rice - ½ cup
Whole urad dal - 2 tbsp
Red food color - 3 pinches
Baking powder – 4 pinches
For sugar syrup:
Sugar – 1 cup
Water – ¼ cup
Sugar – 3 tbsp ( for coating )
Oil - For deep frying
Steps:
Soak rice and urad dal for 1½ hours.
Grind it to a fine paste.
Add food color to the batter and mix well.
Once food color gets mixed well, add baking powder and mix well.
Set aside.
To prepare sugar syrup, mix ¼ cup water and 1 cup sugar in a pan.
Bring it to boil stirring so that the sugar dissolves.
Then reduce the flame to low and proceed to fry the mittai.
Heat oil in a pan.
On high flame, gently drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil
Once hot, it will fluff up. Then cook on low flame.
Flip and cook both sides.
Remove and transfer the fried balls into the sugar syrup.
Remove after 10 minutes and roll it in sugar to give a coating.
Enjoy the melt in the mouth, thaen mittai.
