If you use more than one name, as an author, you can find yourself quite muddled and very busy! It's hard work keeping track of all the different usernames and passwords for the social media platforms connected with each pen name - not to mention the email accounts, book cataloging sites, blogs, and everything else.
This video contains some techniques and tips for managing multiple names, plus ideas for software and apps to make life easier - and leave us with some brain space for the writing stuff, rather than all that remembering!
The tips are, in brief:
* Automate as much as possible. Use RSS feeds from your blogs to your different Goodreads accounts, feed your Twitter accounts from Goodreads, etc.
* Use a different browser on your computer for each pen name. That way you can tell all the sites you go to to remember your details and it is easy to log on to each.
* Be careful with LinkedIn, it is a more formal and less forgiving site. Don't go wild with pen names on there. It's best to keep to your real or primary pen name.
* Facebook only allow one account per person. You can get around that by having your Facebook account in your real name (that will be your Profile) and creating Facebook pages for your pen names (and possibly books).
* Take advantage of mobile apps. The Twitter app is handy because you can load each of your Twitter accounts in and flick between them.
* Try planning your week so you do a little social media and other marketing on one day for one of your names, then the next day do it all again in another name.
