I had a really hard time finding consistent information about correct usage of the standby switch featured on many older tube amplifiers, so I decided to post this up once I felt I understood the process. First I give a simple demonstration of the correct usage. After that, I go into a pretty lengthy explanation of what is actually occurring in the tube and also the risks that a standby switch can pose.
NOTE: Most amps automate the process that the standby switch is meant to perform, making the switch obsolete. This is why you don't see it as much in newer tube amp models.
