I constructed this video from actual recorded quotes from Gene Roddenberry, Star Trek’s creator and one of my personal inspirations. I hope this helps you teach others what Star Trek is really all about.
In short: Star Trek is a show that allows us to reflect on what it means to really be human, and encourages the risks of exploring the unknown and embracing the differences of others. It is a reflection of the good in all of us, and it shows us what humanity has the potential to become.
No TV show or movie has ever set out to cover what Star Trek covers. Its monologues and messages continue to inspire thought-provoking discussions and change the way people think and feel about themselves and the world we live in. It has inspired 3 generations of scientists, philosophers and politicians. It makes our global issues of ethnicity, inequality, religion and gender seem so small and petty. Yes, it has explosions and beautiful spaceships, but at its core, Star Trek is a philosophical commentary on our global society. Go watch The Next Generation and enjoy. It still holds up incredibly well in 2018!
I hope you share this with the people you care about and keep teaching others to think outside the box. Keep sharing what makes us all the same as opposed to our political parties, corporations and media who constantly highlight our differences, and I will remain hopeful.
