Update: within 45 minutes of putting out the nectar today (6-2-14) our Hummers were back!!!
We love watching hummers, our feeder is about 5 or so feet from where we sit. They don't mind us at all and if the feeder is being cleaned they will come right up to us to let us know they are hungry!
You can get very inexpensive plastic feeders in many stores, if you have a Big Lots, you should find a good selection. We like the smaller, plastic ones. They take less nectar and are lighter. These are little birds and don't need huge feeders holding huge amounts of nectar. We hang ours from an iron pole, you can get these in Home Depot or Lowes.
Remember to clean and refill every 2 days. Enjoy the hummers!
