Welcome to Movie Shortens. The orphan Lyra Belaqua is taught at Jordan College in a parallel universe ruled by The Magisterium, where people's souls take on animal forms. Her uncle, Professor Lord Asriel, is her tutor. Lyra accidentally overhears a conversation about a research of Lord Asriel in the North Arctic and the existence of a powerful Dust that unites different worlds. Lyra swears to save her best friend Roger after he is kidnapped by the villainous Gobblers. She is invited to travel to the north with Mrs. Coulter, and Jordan's Vice-Chancellor discreetly offers her a magical compass that can disclose the truth. When Lyra discovers that Mrs. Coulter is the Gobblers' commander, she flees her home and embarks on an incredible adventure with an ice bear to save her companion and other missing youngsters.
