The Space capsule Recovery Experiment [SRE] was conducted by the Indian Space Research Organisation [ISRO] to test features & technologies, among them, the survivability of heat shield tiles covering the outer surface of the capsule from the intense heat generated due to friction upon its re-entry into the Earth's orbit.
Upon successful completion of the experiments, these tiles would be used to cover the outer surface of the re-entry capsule to be used in India's manned space mission and also the Space Shuttle [Reusable Launch Vehicle] that is being developed as part of a project ISRO has undertaken.
