Snatoms, the magnetic molecular modeling kit are designed to represent different elements. The number of flat faces on each atom represent the number of bonds an element can make. This depends on the number of electrons in the outer shell of the element. Most common atoms can have 8 electrons in their outer shell so the number of bonds they can form is 8 minus the number of electrons they already have in their outer shell.
