This is a quick video of how a smart garden can be built using cheap material.

Since this garden was made this in Phoenix, AZ, we decided to make a raised garden as the soil is almost pure clay and rock. We made the actual bed out of cheap cinder block as they are extremely cheap, sturdy, require hardly any construction skills and are free of all toxins.
We used a Raspberry Pi with off the shelf sensors, soldered them up to a breadboard and used NodeCode to bridge the hardware to us (the humans)!
This is the first video of at least a few. Now that we have signals flying around with garden metrics, we should be able to do more interesting things for automation.
