It's probably the most scenic - and most famous - of the dirt tracks in New York's Central Park for running and walking: the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir running track.
The track circles the reservoir named for former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who died in 1994. It was her favorite place to jog when she was healthy. The distance around the track is 1.58 miles.
Although it's called the "running track," there are also those who prefer to walk while others jog. The path is relatively narrow, but those who come to enjoy the view of the water and the skyline manage to accommodate each other. The track affords spectacular views of the Midtown Manhattan and Central Park West skylines.
You can get to the track from a number of different entrances to Central Park. One of the most popular is the 90th Street entrance on Fifth Avenue, which offers a view that often appears in movies and news stories about New York City.
