A popular destination for a day’s outing is Kalgan’s Pool, a 1.5 hour drive from Newman. The deep pool has an exquisite blue colour almost all year round. An immense cliff face surrounds the pool and the best way to describe it is a tranquil oasis perfectly set amidst the rusty, red desert landscape, a great spot for camping, swimming and picnics. Access to Kalgan’s Pool is via four wheel drive only and you will need to get a permit from the Newman Visitors Centre to access the road in. The beauty of Kalgan’s Pool has captured the focus of Hollywood, being the set for Japanese Story, which starred Australia’s own Toni Collette.
