Parts, tools and more free guides are at http://portatronics.com. The Kindle Fire USB port has very breakable pins, usually they break in a way that leaves only a tiny contact surface. To solve that problem, take a piece of enameled copper wire, cover it with solder on one side and solder it to the power trace directly on the motherboard. Then scratch the plastic on the port to expose whatever is left of the broken pin. Then solder the port with the broken pin back on the board. Finally cover the other side of the enameled wire in solder and push it onto the exposed contact while soldering it down simulateously. Applying some flux will facility that the process and keep the pins from shorting together. This way you'll save yourself purchasing a new port, which saves around $20.
The second part of the video shows (after 3:11min) How to use a regular standard USB port on a Kindle Fire. The port must be flipped upside down (glue a distance piece to raise the port to align it with the housing). Then solder individual wires from the board contacts to the port contacts.
