The L3 NightConqueror is a high performance MWIR thermal imager. It operates in the 3.5-5.0um wave band, and is designed for long range, no-nonsense, maximum performance. The quality of construction is very high; and it must have cost a fortune when new. The units shown were manufactured in 2010, but the design dates to around 2005. The cosmetic condition suggests that these cameras have never been used.
The F4 lens has a continuous zoom from 48mm to 342mm, providing a field of view from 3.0x2.3 deg to 21.2x15.9 deg.
A CO2 filter is fitted. This removes the 4.3um CO2 line that has a detrimental effect on long range performance.
The sensor is a reticulated InSb (Indium Antimonide) "staring" focal plane array with 28um pitch and 640x512 (373k) pixels.
Overal size is 19" long, 10.3" high, and 9.1" wide. Weight 48lb. Operating temperature -32C to 60C.
Towards the end of the video I have shown some parts from a dismantled unit. This unit came to us in bits, and sadly it could not be repaired.
