After the large 7.9 magnitude earthquake in the Gulf of Alaska, larger seismic movement was anticipated for the west coast. Today a magnitude 5.8 followed by a 5.1 struck of the coast of Northern California. Earlier today a magnitude 4.0 earthquake already struck Southern California. It may be a sign of upcoming larger seismic activity along the Hayward fault or the San Andreas fault in the short term, but likely this year.
