A 6 leg, 12 servo motors hexapod robot built out of Meccano. Uses the UNO with a 16 channel servo driver and an infrared detector. Weighs about 8 pounds, remember, this is Meccano (old school engineering)
It has several walks and movements programmed in the Arduino, and each movement is invoked using an infrared remote control. One movement 'resets' the robot, putting all legs in their mid-position. Another command raises all the legs, the reverse motion is also available. There are 2 gaits, one that involves 3 legs at a time (the other 3 keeps stability) and another moving 2 legs at a time. Then the legs are move backward, forcing the body of the robot to move forward. Forward, backward motions are available with the 2 gaits, as well as turning left and right. The turning algorithm mimics the movement of a tank. Not super elegant, but effective.
The whole thing is powered with a 7.2 NiCad rechargeable battery, which gives about 15 minutes of action before needing a re-charge.
