Update 9/5/12: The NAZA fail safe will work properly with a Spektrum receiver provided it is setup with the "preset failsafe" which is only found in the 7 channel or higher receivers. You need to set the switch that you are using to set the NAZA modes to a setting that falls outside the setting for attitude, manual or GPS went the transmitter is turned off. You can easily test this when you have your NAZA connected to a computer and have the DJI Assistant running. When you flip your switch to change modes it should indicate attitude, manual or GPS but when you turn your transmitter off the NAZA should go into fail safe mode.
The crash shown above would never have occurred if I had used Preset fail safe and conducted the tests mentioned above AND not used a 6 channel RX that uses the SmartSafe fail safe. SmartSafe holds all channels at last known good setting before loss of signal, except the throttle which defaults to the setting you establish during failsafe setup. I hope I have clarified this.

From what I have read the DJI NAZA has a neat fail safe system that will autoland itself (providing there are no obstructions) after signal loss from the RX. Not knowing a lot about my Spektrum DX7 I assumed that setting the controls where I wanted them during binding would be the control positions that would be used in case of an RX signal loss. I set all controls to neutral, including throttle (I know big mistake). I also intentionally set the mode switch end throws so that the NAZA was in failsafe mode. I then bound the receiver and then reset the endpoints so that the mode switch would switch between manual and attitude. After watching the video you will see what happens.
The only position the Spektrum remembers during binding is the throttle. All other settings are held at their last position before loss of signal.
