An interesting video as it highlights the failings of the V foil concept extremely well. C rig gusty conditions, so started off with the lightweight Skyfall with newly modified V foils, now with small vertical winglets on the bottom of the foils. These have clearly improved directional stability. However, the lightweight boat really struggled upwind, with nothing holding down the windward hull. I then put the same rig onto the Firedragon (second half of the visdeo), which is 300gms heavier. This boat sailed upwind slightly better, but you can see if skidding sideways quite dramatically when foiling. I will fit vertical winglets to its foils to see if this produces the same improvements. We desperately need a better means of controlling the foils to improve upwind sailing. But great fun nonetheless and some high speeds achieved this afternoon in the glorious November Australian sunshine. And no capsizes (well, none that occurred on camera.... ) and no breakages! But I need a smaller rig .. . . . .
