Coach Todd of http://nolimitstriathlon.com had the opportunity to take the Mio heart rate monitor for a test ride for a week.
I found this a great new piece of technology as for years I have been training using HR combined with a HR strap. Losing the strap was really great and I did not miss it.
Wearing the watch during this day I found that it was fashionable and at some points I even forgot I had it on, it was that comfortable. The size is very pleasing to me compared to my current Timex global trainer. Way better!
One feature that the watch does not have is a light. This makes running in the winter hard as the daylight disappears so quickly. I found that the watch would glow for about 30 min and then it was hard to read unless I passed by some streetlights where I could glimpse the values.
In the winter I wear many layers of clothes and often I put my watch over top my jacket sleeve. This is not an option for the Mio as skin contact is required.
I have read that the HR is accurate at speeds up to 20 Km/hr. This would be an issue for my outdoor riding as most times I am quite a bit faster than that but due to winter, snow and ice I did not test this feature on my bike.
Overall I like the idea of this watch a lot and many people will love using the watch. It is simple to use and very user friendly. I hope in the future the Mio will have additional features that allow it to measure Speed, Distance and pair with other ANT+ devices without having to have a cell phone around.
Check it out....this watch may be perfect for you.
