Mobile website developer discusses the difference between responsive and dedicated mobile websites
0:24 Is a responsive mobile website better than a dedicated website?
A responsive website is useful in a number of cases as it makes sure that a website fits well on all devices.
Depending on how it is set up it is not always the answer on its own, to improving leads and sales from
mobile websites.
For smart phones only, it is very important that you create the best possible user experience with customized design and features.
A dedicated website using the same URL as the desktop website, is the best solution here in our opinion.
This way you don`t have to update 2 separate sites and have 2 different URL`s.
In this brief video we cover the differences between the responsive design and dedicated mobile websites / what you should do next.
Hi my name's Andrew Edwards, I'm an internet marketing strategist and the question for today about mobile websites is one that is really important to discuss.
Probably not a lot of people outside web development know what it means but it's is a responsive mobile website better than a dedicated website? This is a pretty controversial question.
And I think both have their pros and cons only at the end of the day I come down firmly on the side of the dedicated or customized mobile website.
A customized mobile website is the same URL as your existing desktop website so there's no change there only it should be created to look like a dedicated mobile website that improves the user experience of someone's searching on a smartphone.
So it's easy to use, it fills the screen, it has a limited amount of navigational elements, you are very clear on what's the key benefits and features are of your business and what call to actions you want them to take.
Mobile visitors are in a hurry and you should get straight to the point as it will lead to improved conversions.
A responsive site is great in the circumstances where yes it fits all different screens smartphones, tablets and desktops so I don’t have a problem with the concept but I think a desktop website is more likely to fit well on a tablet.
Yes there are slightly different ways that you have to use a tablet of course so you have to be aware of that but at the end of the day desktop website tends to work better on a tablet than a smartphone website.
You want to have a website that's created specifically for a smartphone experience because if you have a responsive website yes it's going fit on the mobile, yes it's going to fit nicely on other devices but is it really being built specifically for the best user experience on a mobile?
I’m sure there's always exception to the rule but at the end of the day there's no question in my mind that you have to have a dedicated / customized site, with a lot less carefully thought out targeted content, that is the same URL domain as your desktop.
I hope that helps and we'll speak to you soon.
