The mixed reviews of Yooka-Laylee, a game that functions exactly as it was intended to minus a couple technical errors, led me to believe that its criticism was really against the Collectathon genre for being outdated in the eyes of the modern gaming audience.
In this video, I break down the genre into its most basic components in order to understand how it works, why it works that way, and ultimately, how it can be changed so as to fix this problem without completely dismissing the genre.
