Birdkids is the brand new project being launched by Michael Beim aka Skwerl, the label will deliver various styles of electronic music, ranging from avant-garde experiments and alternative electronica, through to more direct, dance floor focused cuts.
Here the label launches with a single from Valerio Dittrich aka MOTSA, a Vienna based producer, raised in the UK's Scottish Highlands, who's been making huge waves of late with his soul-laden unique style of electronica
The original mix of 'Broken Circuit' opens the release, a dubbed out, lo-fi number, built around a beautiful fusion of sounds, with cosseting Rhodes melodies, arp-style synth stabs and gritty percussion work.
MOTSA's incredible production skills come into play throughout the records six and half minute duration, with heavy processing, such as warbling pitch changes on the synthesized elements, glitchy stutters and space echo delays tucked away in the depths of the background, creating a truly stunning, raw cut from this up and comer.
On the flip side former Gigolo, 4Lux & Sonar Kollektiv artist and label-head, Skwerl, reshapes 'Broken Circuit', tipping the focus towards a more old-school Chicago/Detroit feel.
Skwerl brings an analogue string and brass hook to the forefront to drive the melodic movement, while , sporadic synth licks and bell chimes subtly meander around it.
Heavily swung drums penetrating reverbed bass chords also come into play, creating a dynamic energy for things and rounding the remix off as an understated, unique interpretation.
