Hiking in Chilliwack, British Columbia.
The Mount Slesse Memorial Trail is one of the nicest hikes I have done in the lower mainland of British Columbia. I've been sitting on the footage of this day since the fall. I kept considering the possibilities of doing a voiceover to this video, to express what were my emotions while hiking to the final resting place of the 62 people aboard flight 810. To try to put into words the feeling of being the last person on the mountain in the late afternoon at this powerful place. To be looking across the darkened valley to the late day light shining on Mount Rexford and the Illusion Peaks. But, in the end, I was left with few words beyond awe... wonder.
Seeing some of the debris of the plane at the propeller cairn certainly made that distant event become more real for me. Something about the section of the pilots' control panel in particular made me wonder what their last moments were like. What were the gauges telling them that day? Were they still watching their elevation dropping after they had turned around?
The whole experience was beautiful and moving, a great last hike of the fall season. And I chose to just let the images stand on their own without what little I could put into words...
