Mt Bierstadt
14,065 feet above sea level
Trail - 7 miles & 2700 ft elevation gain
Nearest town - Georgetown, Colorado
I finally worked up my distance in minimalist shoes to attempt a fourteener hike. Fourteeners are the mountains above 14,000 feet, there are 53 in Colorado (based on the 14'er definition). Mt Bierstadt is a popular first 14'er to climb due to the reasonable distance/elevation, clear trail, vehicle accessibility, and safe route.
Unfortunately, that also means you do the hike with A LOT of other people.
We arrived just before 8 am and the trail was already packed. Would HIGHLY recommend arriving no later then 6 am if you would like to avoid most of the crowds going up (or doing this on the weekdays). On the flip side, for a first mtn hike having lots of people around can be helpful if you should have any problems.
Equipment used:
-Inov8 Baregrip 200's
