Multi Track Drum Editing in Cubase 7
• Importing audio files
• Detect and Create a Tempo Map
• Group Editing and Slicing
• Quantize the Performance
• Finishing up and Fine-Tune
I started by importing the relevant audio files into Cubase, and put them all into a folder to be able to have the possibility to Group Edit the tracks. Then I detect the Hitpoints (Transients) of the Kick, Snare and Hats track to be able to use them for slicing later. I extracted the tempo map from the Hihat Track as the was the most accurate track with contents hits on every beat. Then I adjusted the tempo map to be it more constant, around 95BPM +- 3%!
When the tempo map was in place, I started to slice all tracks at the same time according to the Kick, Snare and Hihats hit points. When all tracks were sliced I applied a straight 16th quantize to align them to the beat. Then some fine-tuning of the drums, where Quantize missed was necessary.
The I applied Crossfading to get rid of glichtes, pops and clicks. When all crossfades and cuts sounded good, I Bounced the tracks to have them as one audio file, so no computer resources were used to cope with the crossfades. After that the tracks were locked so when introducing other instruments or applying Quantize again, nothing can be moved on the drums!
I hope you can find something useful!
Enjoy it! DANKE!
