This is my first real mixtape ever that I did for Dave Quam's amazing 'It's After The End Of The World' blog back in 2010. It contains pure Dominican Mambo of the cheapest, cheesiest, dirtiest, most frutyloop-ish kind - my favorite. Pure inspiration here, these are my favorite tracks of this genre in this era.
Now the genre evolved to a more refined thing and that has left me quite disappointed where the edge seems to be lost. The a-tonal, pure "Dominicanism", fast paced of this shit is fucking fantastic and it is too underrated. Way too underrated.
In the early stages you would just have these kind of productions overflowing on the net. In probably 2004/2007 I downloaded almost everything I could get my hands on and that was quite a lot. I can guess that around 2 new tracks a week would come out and I was happily taking them in. Unfortunately this era is no longer here and I see it the same as how I see Reggeton nowadays; Extremely disappointing, too polished, pretentious and almost soulless. At least when the rhythms were extremely raw you could feel the energy and spirit in it. It felt like it was alive and breathing.
Hopefully they'll understand it one day and until then I will remain one of the biggest fans of their most underappreciated work - Mambo.
DR all day nigga.
