Shadow Puppets, a Jazz collective co-led by Irsa Destiwi & Robert MR, has garnered positive commentaries from Jazz critiques and many fans in Indonesia for their creativity, distinctive sound and their dedication to the Jazz tradition. Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, the intensely active duo has continuously explored new ways to present their distinctive sound in a different settings and themes, resulting in many permutations possible in a Jazz context, from playing their originals in a Quartet and Double Quartet format, interpreting Duke Ellington’s and Cole Porter’s songs in a Septet/ Octet formats, to re-arranging legendary Indonesian songs in an edgy, modern Jazz style.
Shadow Puppets’ 3rd album, Indonesian Songbook sees Irsa and Robert continue their exploration, this time collaborating with the impeccable and illustrious singer, Harvey Malaihollo, in re-interpreting the old Indonesian masterpieces - many that has been forgotten by younger Indonesians. Indonesian Songbook is a straight-ahead Jazz album with a mission to provide the listeners with intelligent music and a historical message about Indonesian Art and the Jazz tradition.
