At the TrafficJam hackathon event the PingPal team decided to do something social with the public transport system of Malmö city.
In this two day hackathon event we decided to make a meeting tool for iPhone that would optimize travel time as well as suggest the optimal café where to meet.
The process included several steps:
1. Select a friend from your contact list and use PingPal positioning dialog to get his location.
2. With the known positions of your friend and yourself as inputs suggest a café with optimal travel time, walking and by bus, for the two of you.
3. Data for the optimization was acquired through the public API to the bus time tables (including traffic deviations), OpenStreetMap and OpenTripPlanner.
4. We also included a PingPal based chat so you could communicate with your friend during travelling.
