The E2O comes with its own solar-charging system. Once you buy the car, you don't need to pay for fuel; the only cost involved will be in replacing the batteries every few years, based on usage and recharging patterns.
The four-seater, two-door compact car with automatic transmission spells a new future in private transportation: It disconnects car ownership permanently from fuel costs. It goes a little further than that, of course.
Pronounced as 'Ee-too-oh', the electric vehicle has undergone extensive testing, validation and has been certified as road worthy in India. The Mahindra e2o is slated to be launched On March 18 and will be produced at Mahindra Reva's recently inaugurated plant in Bangalore.
The Mahindra E2O is a four-seater hatchback targeted at upper-middle-class families in need of a second car in congested cities like Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore, where it expected to first go on sale.
The Mahindra e2o will use next generation Lithium Ion batteries and have a range of 100 km per charge. In addition, it is capable of using the futuristic ecosystem of 'Sun2Car' to derive energy from the sun to charge the vehicle, while helping to protect and preserve the environment.
Driven by a 39.4 hp electric motor which derives juice from a Li-ion battery (which can be charged by a 15 amp socket) the hatchback can reach a top speed of 105 kmph. The range on full charge stands at 100 km and it can be further augmented by the Sun2Car solar technology which derives power from sunlight.
