I used a small mirror and a foam blocks and turned the mirror and foam blocks into a periscope that could easily slide on to the end of the Nexus7 tablet so the the rear-facing camera could be turned into a forward-facing camera. It is very awkward to use the Google, Nexus7 tablet rear-facing camera as a forward-facing camera. The periscope attachment shown here solves the problem nicely. I would recommend using the periscope attachment mostly with the Nexus7 tablet in the horizontal position. The foam blocks will probably let loose if you tip the Nexus 7 tablet at a steep angle toward the ground. Also, I just found this on the internet that might be useful. It talks about upping the the video resolution on the Nexus 7 to 720p using a simple app, otherwise the system defaults to a 480p.
