I’ve been traveling for one year now. Focusing on making travel video’s that I shoot on my Sony RX100 III camera, my Sony a6300 and DJI Mavic pro drone. Traveling through different countries gives you a lot of opportunity to shoot amazing video. I feel like it’s a great and very interesting way to learn more about making (travel) video’s and to improve skills in filming and editing.
I absolutely love working with my Sony RX100 III camera. It’s ideal for making travel video’s because it’s so compact. But its quality is so good for a camera of this size. I love that it’s possible to just keep the camera in a pocket if you want, so that you can be very quick shooting something interesting that you suddenly see along the way. I sometimes also work with my electric stabiliser and also on that device the Sony RX100 III works perfect. It’s very easy to use on a stabiliser, also because of its small size. I pretty much always shoot in 60fps, so that I always have the option to use slow motion in shots. I would totally recommend the Sony RX100 III camera for traveling or one of the upgrades, the mark IV or V. My Sony a6300 I use in combination with a 50mm lens for nice depth of field shots.
With a backpack filled with some basic essentials and next to my Sony camera's also a couple of other gadgets (laptop, stabiliser and drone) that were gonna help me create travel video, I left home and started my trip. Owning pretty much nothing more than the stuff that is in my two backs feels great! Realising you can be happy and be in very interesting situations without a lot of material stuff adds up big time to your feeling of freedom. And that's the beauty of traveling I think.
Just by doing, trial and error, educating yourself online and having good resources of inspiration I learned a lot about my Sony RX100 III, (travel) filmmaking, photography and content creation in general. I absolutely love learning in this very practical way because it gives you instant opportunity to experience what works (for you) and what doesn't.
Sometimes you’ll be in uncertain situations. But it is only when you embrace certainty as well as uncertainty that you can be truly free!
