South Beach, Oregon (October 21, 2011) A local resident surfer, Bobby Gumm, went surfing at South Beach mid-afternoon during calm conditions, on October 20, 2011. While sitting on his surfboard and waiting to catch a wave, he experienced a once in a lifetime encounter. A White shark estimated at 15' -- 16' in length, passed beneath the surfer striking him and his board, launching them vertically 10' into the air.
