A paragliding pilot new to the Gondola in Queenstown, I got caught out by the strong gorge winds, which can blow hard easterly in the winter morning towards Lake Wakatipu, often against prevailing winds.
A lot of pilots, new and experienced, get caught out by these winds so I posted this video in the hope that it guides others on 'what not to do'.
Speak to other people in the area before flying, have a structured approach plan, get upwind of the landing area early... and fly safe!
