Pardon my obnoxious gum chewing :D
(NOT SO) FINAL UPDATE: Sorry it took me so long to do this, I thought everyone was on the same page, but some people seem to think I'm OBLIVIOUS to the fact that, yes, this WAS Viral marketing for Valve's Portal 2. The official website can be found at www.thinkwithportals.com which also takes you to a Game Informer Hub with early info/art/screenshots of the game. We're probably not going to hear any more about this until E3.
Also, one other thing that people should know is that there was a Portal 2 Press Event that was to be held at E3 on the date of June 14th, but it has been mysteriously CANCELLED by this letter sent out to members of the press:
"Dear Subject Name Here,
Aperture Science is pleased to inform you that we have partnered with Valve to announce the gala CANCELLATION of the June 14 Portal 2 event at the Regal Theater. The event will be replaced by a surprise. And even though the cancellation of the event certainly counts as a surprise, we are pleased to further announce that the cancellation of the event is not THE surprise. However, per International treaties regarding the definition of the word "surprise", of which both Aperture Science and Valve are signatories, the time, date and content of the actual surprise will only become available as you experience the surprise.
If you'd like to ask fruitless questions about the E3 Portal 2 surprise or, more fruitfully, schedule an appointment to attend a Portal 2 screening at the Valve booth during E3, please contact Valve's Special Envoy to Surprises, Doug Lombardi.
Thank you for - RECORD SCRATCH!!! -
PS: The surprising record scratch is also not the surprise."
Verrrrry mysterious, Valve. So, to recap, the Portal 2 press event has been cancelled, but Portal 2 will STILL be shown at Valve's booth. In lieu of the aforementioned Portal 2 Event, there will be a surprise. What could the surprise be? If I were to hazard a guess, I would say it's gonna be the long-awaited announcement of Episode 3, but maybe I'm being too optimistic.
(POSSIBLY MORE) FINAL UPDATE: Soooo yeah, there's like a million rumors going around the internet right now about what the surprise could be. Some say it's Episode 3, some say its a grand reveal of Source Engine 2, some say that Episode 3 is gonna get skipped and Valve's going to reveal Half Life 3, a full sequel instead, possibly ON a revamped Source Engine... it really could be anything. I guess we'll all find out next week, won't we?
All I know is that there was ANOTHER press release about the DELAY of Portal 2 into 2011 that, although sad, contains this little bit of info.
"To ask questions about how close we all came to dying, or to ask futile questions about the previously announced E3 ***PORTAL-2-THEMED-FOR-GOD'S SAKE*** surprise or, less futilely, to schedule an appointment to attend a Portal 2 screening at the Valve booth during E3, please contact Valve's delegate to the EU's Valve Time Studies Group, Doug Lombardi."
Soooo, "Portal 2 Themed For God's Sake"? I give up. I have no idea. Don't ask me.
