In this video, pretty much all of the important characters meet in the Thames Arms. Professor Layton gives a grand explanation, which says that they are not in the future. Instead, they are on a large movie set, built underneath the real London. The time machine was really an elevator in disguise. Makes sense to me!
Dimitri then reveals himself, and he has a showdown with Layton. Layton easily outsmarts the villain, and Dimitri monologues about his motives. Layton then reveals that there is another culprit, who has been using Dimitri all along. This culprit is none other than Clive!
Clive kidnaps Flora, then starts his superweapon of mass destruction: a giant robot thing that kind of looks like a cockroach.
