Lack of a ground wire in this setup may be the cause of some sparking I was experiencing when I touched the starter cables to the batter posts. I proceeded without a ground wire based on some forum discussions and because I have a mobile batter charger that does not have a ground wire but can power appliances. I wouldn't attempt to add much more than what I have here as a load without grounding the unit better. Even when the inverter is disconnected after running an appliance a charge might be built up in it so be careful with how you handle the cables leading to the batter terminals. I found some of the discussion on how to setup this inverter to be lacking in details and warnings so decided to make my own.
