On Dec. 20, 2019 a ULA Atlas V rocket, launched Boeing’s first CST-100 Starliner spacecraft on an unpiloted Orbital Flight Test, with the intention of rendezvousing with the International Space Station. Starliner had an OFF-NOMINAL orbital insertion, meaning that it was not on the correct trajectory to rendezvous with the ISS. It was, however, placed in a *stable* orbit so there was no risk of it burning up, and they gained full control of the spacecraft. NASA and Boeing decided that they will NOT attempt to rendezvous with the ISS. Instead, they will attempt to land Starliner in White Sands, New Mexico on Sunday, Dec. 22. This is an audio-only teleconference update, 1 day after the anomaly.
Participants:
- NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine
- Jim Chilton, senior VP of Boeing's Space and Launch Division
- Steve Stich, deputy manager of NASA's Commercial Crew Program
