MIT astrophysicist and planetary scientist Sara Seager has been described as an 'astronomical Indiana Jones'. As a result of her pioneering research into exoplanets, planets that orbit stars other than our sun, Seager was named one of Time Magazine's Top 25 Most Influential People in Space in 2012 and just last year in 2013, she was named Fellow at the prestigious MacArthur Foundation. A native of Toronto, Seager earned a BSc in mathematics and physics at the University of Toronto and a PhD in Astronomy from Harvard. She spent the next three years doing research at the Institute for Advanced Study before being offered a position at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she now has tenure and teaches both physics and planetary science.
