During a tidy out at SWM a video entitled - 'Steve Webb Models aeroplanes DO NOT REMOVE from the shop' was discovered in a junk box. The writing is in that precise and neat hand writing of a man who was familar to Steve - A good friend to Steve and Steve's dad, the one time NMFC Chairman Mr Ron Lloyd. Ron passed away before Steve moved to the new store in 1990. His Sopwith Pup can be seen hanging in the upstairs showroom and barely a week passes when his name is not mentioned. He has never been forgotten.
He never can be forgotten as almost everytime there's a clear out the staff find something else with Ron's hand writing on.
Ron's help on Fridays and late night Fridays when SWM first started out on the soon to be 25 year journey was essential - although we didnt realise at the time. The Friday experience would not have been the same without Ron ' on the door'.
Quick to speak his mind, Ron never held back when someone had destroyed an engine by use of a starter or vice. He would tell the customer off! Somehow he got away with it, it was all part of his charm.
I think he would be so pleased we found this video. We hope to get some more footage off the tape, but the tape is in poor condition. So watch this space!
