The Futhark Runes are an ancient system of divination created by the Norse peoples of Northern Europe. These symbols started out as an alphabet, and were then used as a system for gaining insight and divination. Each Rune symbol has specific meanings and associations. When laid out or "cast" for a reading, they combine to reveal information relevant to the question being asked.
There are traditionally 24 runes in a set, plus the modern addition of the "blank rune", for those who choose to include it. This deck has a total of 50 flash cards to help learn the meaning of each rune. Half of the cards feature the rune symbol on the front and detailed description on the back. The descriptions include the rune's name, letter in the alphabet, pronunciation, theme, keywords, uses for magickal working, key phrases and reversed meanings for those runes that have a reverse and upright position. The other 25 cards have only the rune on one side and are for doing Rune Castings without the need of a separate rune set.
There is also an instructional booklet with the deck that includes: How to use the deck, History and Origins of the Runes, Understanding the Runes, Rune Casting, and Layouts. The cards are 3.75" x 5.25" and come in a sturdy storage box.
The deck can be used to do Rune castings without a rune set, or used with a Rune set for reference. Used in combination with the Rune Quick Reference Sheet, they are an excellent system for learning and strengthening one's skills, whether one is just starting to study or looking to go deeper.
