Hi, this is Jeremiah of Gracious Watch. Today, I’ll be reviewing the SEIKO SSC081 Adventure-Solar. This is a very environmental friendly and classic watch which I had chosen for Gracious Watch, January 2016 giveaway.
I am quite a big fan of mother-nature and the environment, so promoting this watch as our first giveaway in 2016 could also bring more awareness to people to let them know that there are eco-friendly watches out there in the market today.
I had done a small interview with people and ask them about solar-powered watches and surprisingly there are some people who do not know that solar-powered watches exist.
That’s one of the big reason why I had chosen this watch for the giveaway. Apart from that, this watch is also very affordable, it cost me only about $250 sing dollars excluding shipping fee or around $175USD. If you buy it from Amazon, it will only cost about $179USD inclusive of shipping fee at the time of reviewing this watch. That is very affordable for a watch of this caliber.
So what you are seeing here is a 41.5 millimetres case in diameter, 13 millimetres in thickness. The band here is 20 millimetres and has a water resistance of up to 100 meters or 330 feet. Hardlex crystal on the protection of the dial. Lumibrite on the indexes. Internal bezel compass as you can see here. One of the very cool features of this watch.
Two pushers. One pusher at 2 o’clock and the another at 4 o’clock, You have your regular crown at 3. This is not a screw down crown. This watch has a water resistant of up to 330 feet so there’s really no need for screw down.
Your actual second hand is at 9 o’clock. If you look closely enough, you should be able to see it.
This is obviously a chronograph watch, so start the chronograph hand by pushing the pusher down at 2. Pause the chrono hand by pressing it again. To reset, press the pusher at 4.
You have your date window at 3 o’clock. Change the date by pulling the crown out 1 tick and turn the crown in the clockwise direction.
2 tick to change the time. Pretty standard
This watch is powered by Japanese quartz v172 solar movement. Can be recharged by all kinds of light, including fluorescent light.
Not only for sunlight but your room light do work as well.
This watch is rarely out of power, if it’s running low on power, the second hand at 9 o’clock will skip a second, so instead of ticking 1 second at a time, it will tick 2 second - for each tick. That is how this watch indicate that it is running on low power.
In case, if the watch is without power, it will start to run normally after just eight minutes of exposure to sunlight.
