A suspected arson attack on a stack of around 500 tyres occurred on Sunday evening (22nd May) at around 7pm BST.
The fire, which took hold beside the Redditch to Lichfield Trent Valley railway line on waste ground near the New Fosse, took around 45 mins to bring under control. Over 30 firefighters were deployed and had to bring in additional equipment to dig out remaining tyres buried beneath the pile.
Police attending the scene believe that arson was the most likely source of the blaze. The area is known to be a popular hang out area for youths and numerous car and grass fires have occured there in the past.
