Optical interferometry makes various phenomena that we cannot see with usual light visible. In the examples in this movie, a technique known as Electronic Speckle-Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) visualizes concentrated in-plane deformation. The specimen is applied a monotonic tensile load at a constant pulling rate. Depending on the pulling rate, the concentrated deformation behaves differently.
