This is International Auto Parts with a tech tip on how to properly service your K&N Filter. This tech tip is applicable whether you have a flat filter or a power stacked filter.
Tools Needed:
1. Nitro Gloves
2. Shop Rags
3. K&N Recharge Kit
4. Garden Hose
5. Bucket to catch rinse water
6. Soft Bristle Paint Brush
The first step obviously is to remove the filter(s) from the car; since you can't clean it inside the car. Next use the soft bristle brush to clean off any loose debris. Next take the cleaning solution from the recharge kit and spray liberally on both sides of the filter and let it set in for about 10 minutes. You want to be careful and make sure that the cleaning solution does not dry. After the solution has soaked in its best to submerge the filter in water and then rinse it off with free running cool water. When using a hose to rinse water through the filter you want to rinse in the opposite direction that air flows through the filter. Once that is done just sit the filters out and put them in the sun to dry. On a nice hot day it may take an hour, but it could be longer depending on the temperature. Once the filters are good and dry you are going to take the aerosol oil that comes in the recharger kit and apply it to both sides of the flat filter. For best results use a back and forth sweeping motion to ensure that you have it evenly across each pleat. On the round filter you want to just do the outside of the filter. Let the oil dry and look for any light spots and touch it up. If need be you want to take a dry rag and wipe both sides of the filter to get the oil off especially around the sealing surfaces.
