I diy the heck out of my poor Sjcam M20 to make it a usable moto vlogging solution. I also solve a few other nagging usability issues along the way making for an elegant and modular final solution.
I have limited electronics and soldering experience and I struggled with the miniature circuitry but took my time to do things right.
Since the camera only comes with an internal mic I believe the mic gain is adjusted to max in the firmware to make it usable. There is no way to adjust the mic gain in the camera settings and this leads to considerable hiss when used with the external microphone. However its pretty straightforward to fix by running a noise reduction and de-amplifying filters in a sound editor.
You can use a 6 wire rj11 connector instead of the rj45 but I had none handy and I cobbled this solution up from the stuff I had lying around.
