Lost the plane yesterday when RTH on my Cyclops Storm OSD failed. Had about given up hope of its return, when I got a call from a very nice Eastern European Gentleman (A BIG Thanks) said he had found my plane & would I like to come & collect it. Restored my faith in human nature!!! I had taken it up to 1.3km high & about 750m out when RTH kicked in ( you can tell this as the pan/tilt camera mount moves up & the motor Speeds up), but instead of heading home, it headed away. Jon's(Pudsey-RC) theory is that the prop is unbalanced & has buggered the motor so it vibrates too much & upsets the Gyro in the OSD!!! I tend to agree with him after seeing & hearing this footage!!!
Anyway, being so high, I lost where the plane was. I have a 7dbi patch antenna on my Fr-Sky TX & need to point it roughly in the direction of the plane! I wasn't!!! So it headed away, even thogh I have been much further than that & still had control. By the time I got control (still pointing the TX in the wrong direction) & was headed home at the time of the crash, all I could think was to get it down quickly, to get a better signal & figure out where I was in relation to my field. As you can see, I dived too steeply & the canopy flew off with the flight camera on, making me think I was inverted & out of control!!! If I had known what had happened I could have clicked RTH on & the plane would have levelled out, but probably headed away again!!! So as well as the RTH failing, PILOT ERROR seems to be the actual cause of the crash!!! Another lesson learned & time to order a new motor I think!!!
Enjoy!!!
And again, a BIG THANKS TO VERY NICE MAN THAT RETURNED MY SKYWALKER TO ME!!! (Sorry, I did not get you're name, but you know who you are)
