This song was a huge undertaking. When I started to read the books "A Song of Ice and Fire" (A Game of Thrones) I didn't know how much the characters would captivate me. I've never quite felt this much for fictional characters before. The struggle of the characters and the realism of the writing are both unbelievable.
Before reading the books I had already come up with the melody of this song and had planned it to simply be a piano piece. It was when I came up with the lyrics, "There will be no sun, when all the wars are done" that I decided to make it about the Starks and their struggle. The entire song is through Catelyn Stark's (Tully) perception. I felt her character suffered the most throughout the story; the loss of Ned Stark; her son Robb Stark; the sack of Winterfell and her missing children. Reading her parts throughout the novels was difficult.
"Songs of War" is very meaningful to me, and I hope it will be to you as well. Fictional as they are, the characters in "A Song of Ice and Fire" are important to us as readers and viewers, and the tragedy at the Red Wedding will never be forgotten!
"The North Remembers".
